Sometimes you need a little help to set the mood for a tarot reading. Music can block out the noisy neighbor, the frustrating day you just had, or simply bring you from the ordinary world into a space of calm introspection. It’s also hugely helpful when reading for others who might be nervous or skeptical. In this series of posts I wanted to highlight the artists and albums that get me all ready for divination.
Normally, you don’t want to music playing during a tarot reading that has lyrics. It’s distracting. I make an exception for Dead Can Dance. (You’ve heard the non-language of Sanvean, right? If you watched The West Wing you have.) This is the absolute epitome of music for divination. Put this on as you lower the lights for that midnight tarot reading and you are in the zone instantly. The group has been around a long time, and pull from a variety of sources to create the haunting, chanting, tribal, olde English, fairy-tale sounding music. And now, they have a studio in a renovated church. What could be more perfect?
