Notes on Spread: Ok. So I’m about to admit something that I don’t talk openly about. My hippie-witchy side. My I-believe-in-ghosts side. My a-spell-is-a-prayer side. This does not make me comfortable, but given the messages of the reading, I think it’s needed. I mentioned a particularly powerful session I attended at BATS about using tarot as a portal to the world of spirits, given by Ellen Lorenzi-Prince. I had the card with that invocation on my altar today, as it is Halloween season. I did a spread with the Halloween Tarot and felt like it was all a jumble. I looked at the invocation card and thought ‘What should I do with this mess? Should I try again, using that technique? ‘ and drew one more card – the Death card. A clear message to do the reading again, using the technique for consulting the dead. So, I did it. And I ended up shuffling the cards in a completely different way than I usually do, and ended up with a reading that was a lot more cohesive and powerful. 3 Majors, and the pips tell a story.

Thoughts for the Week:

This reading clearly tells a story that speaks to me. Here’s what I’d say to a client if I was reading the cards in order:

1. Sunday (Sun) True Self, Ego, Life Force, Money Knight of Ghosts (Cups) + 10 of Bats (Swords)

How you get your life force revitalized: “The Knight brings a message, a message of ghosts. And while the 10 is often a card of betrayal, look at the image. She sleeps in water, and helpers crowd around. The idea of consulting the dead, your ancestors is a powerful one especially at this time of year. You might want to do some research on this – it might be of great help.”

2. Monday (Moon) Emotions, Changes, Journeys 7 of Imps (Wands)

How you get your emotional needs met: “Look at that little boy dressed up as an Imp, heading off with them to a spooky house. Courage! You have an emotional journey to make, and you have to have some courage! Even if you have to ‘fake it till you make it’ by putting on the clothes or attitude of someone more confident than you really feel, do it. This is how you will get at the heart of the work of this week.”

3. Tuesday (Mars) Ambition, Energy, Risk  Ace of Imps (Wands)

How you express your energy. Your drives: “When that courage sinks in, and you’ve internalized it, hold on to it! It will re-energize you.”

4. Wednesday (Mercury) Communication, Business Matters Witch (Temperance)

Your communication style. What stimulates you intellectually: “Well, it’s Halloween and you read tarot and occasionally make special teas to heal people. So perhaps get your witch on this week. Measure everything twice – literally and figuratively, but don’t be afraid to make some magic.”

5. Thursday (Jupiter) Faith, Luck, Abundance Werewolf (Moon)

How you achieve a sense of faith and optimism: “This is a further message to be yourself. It’s Halloween season and everyone loves a girl with a witchy vibe at this time of year. Perhaps it’s not about putting on a costume of someone else to have courage, perhaps it’s wearing who you are more openly? The moon is important to you, but you hide your meditation altar when you have guests. Look at that wolf. He can’t help himself. What would happen if you stopped trying to help yourself?”

6. Friday (Venus) Love, Beauty, Pleasure 7 of Bats (Swords)

How you express love. Who/What attracts you: “And bam! Does that card drive home the point. You help no one by hiding, by deception. You need clearer communication about who you really are. ”

7. Saturday (Saturn) Discipline, Work, Stability Clown (Fool)

Your work ethic. The way you embody discipline: “The Fool shows up when we are ready to put something behind us and move forward with something new. If you can really do the work outlined here, you might really be able to make some emotional progress. It’s unsettling to see that clown in a spot that’s supposed to be about stability, but in a lot of ways stability can be stagnation. So go for it.”

  1. Great work with the Halloween deck! I won that deck at BATS the year it was released. I love the way you do weekly readings with different decks… you have truly inspired me to work with my more obscure decks. Thanks for your innovative website! Linda from Northern California
