(For the past 5 years I have used the same journal prompts in December for my personal blog Hurry Slowly. Inspired by the #Reverb10 prompts, I have kept the best and added a few of my own. Interestingly enough, I have 22 favorite prompts, and they match up nicely with the Major Arcana, so this year I’ve decided to call it #TrumpTheYear.)
THE EMPEROR. What habit did you adopt this year that really made a positive impact on your life?
Ah, that’s an easy one. I started doing something that makes me feel powerful, like an Emperor. Or, at least, makes me feel in charge of my life. What could that be? ClassPass! Seriously, people. If you live in a major city and you are looking for a way to get your butt to the gym, give this a shot.
I realized that I have a need for routine when it comes to working out. I am also completely allergic to routine when it comes to working out. As soon as I have established a routine, I hate it and stop doing whatever it is I planned in the first place. (I have issues with follow-thru, as I have noted.) With ClassPass, I pay a fee (it ain’t cheap!) and have 3 visits in 30 days to gyms all over the city. Given that you can’t go more than a few blocks without passing a Yoga or Pilates studio in this town, I have yet to run out of options.
My routine now is that I have a class every day after work. But sometimes it’s Pilates. Yoga. Tai Chi. Ballet. Circuit Training. Weights. Coached treadmill runs (who knew that was a thing?) or Hip Hop Dancing. I have yet to try Flying Yoga, Boxing, Stand Up Paddle Boarding, or Pole Dance Cardio class, but it’s only a matter of time. I feel strong these days. Like a boss. Like an Emperor.
